Hip Pain

All conditions

Hip pain can show up as a pinch at the front during squats, a deep ache on the outside after running, or stiffness that makes getting out of a chair feel like a negotiation. The hip is a load-bearing joint with a lot of muscles crossing it, which means the pain could be coming from several places and rarely has a simple single cause.

How we approach hip pain

If you have been stretching and foam rolling without lasting relief, the tightness you feel is probably a symptom, not the source. We assess hip strength, range of motion, and how the joint handles load during the movements that matter to you. We look at glute function, hip flexor capacity, lumbar spine contribution, and whether the way you train, sit, or move is asking more of the hip than it can currently handle.

What treatment looks like

Treatment depends on where the load problem sits. It might include glute and hip rotator strengthening if lateral stability is the issue, hip flexor capacity work if anterior tightness is driven by weakness, or addressing lumbar or pelvic contributions if the hip is compensating for stiffness elsewhere. Rehab is progressive, exercise-based, and connected to your specific activities so the improvements carry over.

Who can help

Any of our physiotherapists can assess and treat hip pain. If you are a runner, Nicholas Ho and Isabelle Chow can both assess how hip mechanics are affecting your stride. If hip pain is showing up under the barbell, TJ Chen can look at squat and hinge patterns. For post-surgical hip rehab or persistent hip conditions, Ivan Tam or Helen Nguyen can both handle complex joint presentations.

Your first session is a full assessment. We look at how your hip loads, what is contributing, and build a clear plan from there.
